Hook Lighthouse

Hook Lighthouse – The oldest original operating lighthouse in the World.

Enjoy a tour of Hook Lighthouse, one of the most popular visitor attractions on Ireland’s Ancient East. Loved by visitors year round this 800 year old lighthouse has many accolades, chief amongst them; it is the oldest original operating lighthouse in the world… yes, the world!

The 800-year-old lighthouse stands proudly at the tip of the beautiful Hook Peninsula; it is a true gem situated in the South East corner of Ireland’s Ancient East. It was voted in Ireland’s top 10 favourite attractions plus Ireland’s favorite hidden gem in the 2018 Irish Travel Awards and with a fascinating tour on offer, it’s not hard to understand why it ranks so highly.

Irish National Heritage Park

Located on the banks of the picturesque River Slaney, ‘The Irish National Heritage Park’ truly is the cornerstone of ‘Ireland’s Ancient East’. An outdoor museum depicting 9,000 years of re-created Irish History situated within natural forestry & wet woodlands. Take an unforgettable journey through Ireland’s past and experience stories, sights and sounds that shaped our country. The world you enter is an authentic recreation of Ireland’s heritage. Homesteads, places of ritual, burial modes and long forgotten remains will enlighten the casual visitor and interest the scholar.

A visit to the Irish National Heritage Park is like no other you can imagine, with 3 interesting and entertaining guided tours that run throughout the day, a trip to our Falconry Centre is also a must-do during your visit.

Seal Rescue Ireland

Seal Rescue Ireland is offering one-hour “Seal Feed and Enrichment Experiences” three times per day (10 AM, 1 PM and 3.30 PM). Participants should book in advance to avoid any disappointment and groups are limited to six people (age restrictions apply). They also offer a 30 minute guided tour experience for all the family. April-June are their quieter months so availability may differ. In their busier season, there will be more time slots available. Please check their website for Availability before visiting.

The ‘Seal Feed and Enrichment Experience’ is your chance to join our team ‘behind the scenes’ to take part in marine mammal rehabilitation, and help us feed and provide play opportunities for our seal pups in care! There is a €30 fee per participant, and as always, all funding goes to support hospital operations costs.

Saltee Ferry

The Saltee Ferry operates daily, shuttling visitors from Kilmore Quay to the Saltee Islands. This scenic journey provides a chance to witness diverse wildlife, with puffins being a highlight for photography enthusiasts. The islands are a haven for seabirds like puffins, gannets, and seals, offering a unique and captivating experience for nature lovers.

An Crosán and An Foracha, the ferry boats, are licensed by the Department of Transport and fitted with a full inventory of safety and lifesaving equipment. Each boat is licensed to carry up to 12 passengers. The departure point for the Saltee Ferry is at the top of the harbour in Kilmore Quay beside the boat launching slip. We advise that you are at the Saltee Ferry gate 10 minutes prior to your trip.
